EmployersHow WorkLink Workforce Investment Board Works for you
WorkLink’s business services improve the effectiveness of your training dollars and the efficiency of your training practices. Through partnerships with local and state organizations, WorkLink implements the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 in Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties and ensures that the local workforce development system is market-driven and responsible in meeting the employment and training needs of employers and job seekers.
Training is available for new hires and incumbent workers with reimbursement or reduced costs to businesses that meet eligibility requirements for each program. WorkLink can also help you profile your applicants, customize your training, and respond to potentially adverse company changes through the following resources:

  • Labor Market Data – Analyses of job gains and losses, economic expansions and contractions and the business cycle help you make informed decisions.
  • Employment & Wages – Regional and national employment figures allow you to evaluate the economic climate.
  • Rapid Response – A team of professionals stand ready to assist both employers and employees as they transition through a downsizing or closure event.

On-the-Job Training - Through a partnership with the South Carolina Employment Security Commission (SCES C), On-the-Job Training (OJT) is available to defray the cost of training new employees. SCESC will reimburse a company for 50 to 75 percent of the training wages for six to 10 weeks of training new hires who are eligible for WIA services. Each of the three area OneStop Workforce Centers has an OJT Contract writer ready to assist employers in every step of the process.

Incumbent Worker Training - This program provides funding for training due to expansion, new technology, retooling, new services/product lines and new organizational structuring, or as part of a layoff aversion strategy. Businesses that have at least one full-time employee and are current on all state tax obligations can receive reimbursements for training expenses ranging from basic academic skills to company-specific skills and industry certifications.

Apprenticeship Carolina - Employers of any size can sponsor a registered apprenticeship that earns a tax credit of $1,000 and may be eligible for WIA funding. Through a partnership with Tri-County Technical College, registered apprenticeships combine supervised on-the-job training with related technical instruction. New hires and incumbent workers can take advantage of an apprenticeship to earn while they learn, while employees benefit from better retention and increased loyalty.

WorkKeys® - This job skills assessment system, developed by ACT, measures critical job skills. By comparing job profile information with individual WorkKeys test scores, organizations can make reliable decisions about hiring, training and program development. Assessment focuses on key areas of communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
