Q. What is a OneStop Workforce Center?
A. One-Stop Workforce Centers are the heart of the workforce investment system under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). These centers provide many services so that workers, job seekers, and businesses can find the services they need under one roof in easy-to-reach locations. The One-Stop Workforce Centers are designed to help businesses find qualified workers and help job seekers and workers obtain employment and training services to advance their careers.

Q. Is there a fee for using the center?
A. The Worklink Workforce Investment Board and center partners provide basic services at no cost. Some educational and training programs have fees.
Q. Do I need to make an appointment to use the resources in the One-Stop Workforce Center?
A. Most One-Stop services are available on a walk-in basis. Feel free to drop in during regular hours. You can help yourself to the resources available in the center. Q. Where are the One-Stop Workforce Centers located?
A. The WorkLink Workforce Investment Board established a center in each of the three area counties. They are located in the SC Employment Security Commission Offices. View locations.
Q. What kind of jobs do you have?
A. One Stop Workforce Centers can help people discover job listings in the local area an around the country. All types of jobs are listed through America’s Job Bank. Additional listings are found on Internet sites and in newspapers. Explore the job seeker button to find listings.
Q. What is WIA and who do I contact to find out more information about WIA?
A. The Workforce Investment Act is a federal program, administered at the local level, to help people who are unemployed or underemployed obtain or retain employment. Services include access to job listings, career information, labor market information, and information on services available in the community through the partners located in One-Stop Workforce Centers. Q. Will you help me write a resume?
A. Workshops on a variety of topics are conducted at the One-Stop Workforce Centers to help job seekers improve their skills when searching for a job. These topics include resume preparation, interviewing skills, learning to use the computer, application completion and many other classes dealing with your job search. Q. Do I need a high school diploma or GED to get a job?
A. Not necessarily, but many employers will prefer a candidate that does have a GED/high school diploma. For this reason, it is in our best interest to get information at the One-Stop Workforce Center about obtaining your GED.

Q. How do I list a job?
A. You are welcome to fax, e-mail or call in a job order. There is a form that has standard information on it, but we can take information from you on your own form. Email us about our Job Listing Services.
Q. Can I get my job posted on the Internet?
A. All jobs are posted on the Internet (unless you specify otherwise). The job listings become part of America’s Job Bank the largest employment site on the web.
Q. If I post a job, will applicants contact me?
A. You specify how you want to be contacted. You may list a job without your organization name. Only applicants who meet the specifications you set will be referred to you. If you like, applications and resumes can be gathered for you.
Q. We have a company policy of using staffing agencies. Can we still use the system?
A. Job listings are taken from any employer including staffing agencies. To recruit additional applicants, you may want to encourage your staffing agency to list with the system.
Q. What kind of job applicants do you have on file?
A. One-Stop Workforce Centers serve the general public. People with a wide range of experience and abilities utilize them. One-third of center clients are already working and looking to make a career change. Centers have access to a large pool of skilled workers who are not currently working due to plant closures.
Q. What services do you have for new or small businesses?
A. All businesses large or small are given the same attention. Small businesses might be especially interested in recruitment and screening services. By listing a job with the system, you can save the expense of an advertisement and avoid the hassles of being contacted by unqualified applicants. Interview space, copier, fax machine, and computers are available for companies who wish to interview at the Center.
Q. How much do services cost?
A. Most basic services are provided at no cost through the WorkLink Workforce Investment Board and partner agencies.
Q. Can I attend meetings of the Workforce Investment Board?
A. All meetings are open to the public. The Board meets the third Thursday every other month starting in January. Meetings are held at the Madren Center on the Clemson University Campus. Meetings begin at 1:00. The November meeting is generally a closed strategic planning meeting.
