Workshops

The SC Works Centers offer several workshops to aid jobseekers in their job search. Workshops are FREE and OPEN to the public. Please register early to confirm your space in the class. Space is limited.

Here are a few of the workshops offered:

Computer Basics – Mastered the mouse and keyboard? Computer Basics provides an introduction to computer concepts and the Windows operating system. This is an excellent workshop for new computer users. Prerequisite: Mousing & Basic Keyboarding or equivalent knowledge.

Computer Mousing & Basic Keyboarding – New to computers? Learn how a mouse works with hands-on practice and begin to develop good keyboarding techniques by learning the keyboard and proper finger placement.

Doing More with Less – Help your household income go further by learning how to do more with less. You’ll receive excellent tips on how to create a plan that will work for your budget.

Email for the Absolute Beginner – Learn how to setup an Email account and how to send and reply to emails. PREREQUISITES: Mousing & Basic Keyboarding, Computer Basics and Internet or equivalent knowledge.

Expungement & Pardons Workshop – The workshop is designed to provide information regarding provisions in state law for the expungement of an arrest record or for the possibility of a pardon for a past criminal offense.

Fast Tracking Your Job Search – Get on the fast track with your job search. Learn how and where to search for the job you want. This workshop will help to increase your confidence, feel great about yourself and provide you with the foundation you need to successfully search for the job you deserve!

Internet & Job Search – You’ll receive hand-on practice and tips for using the internet to search for jobs. PREREQUISITE: Computer Basics or equivalent knowledge.

Job Interviews & Successful Interviews – You only have one chance to make a great first impression! Be sure to attend this workshop so you’ll have a winning interview!

Resume Writing: Part 1, Preparation – Learn what you will need to write a resume so that you can begin gathering your information to be well on your way to a great resume. PREREQUISITE: Using Microsoft Word or equivalent knowledge.

Resume Writing: Part 2, Writing – Once you have all the information for your resume, you’ll learn how to format it to best fit the job you want and deserve! PREREQUISITE: Resume Writing: Part 1.

Using Microsoft Word – Learn the basics of using Word so you can prepare your resume and write both cover and thank you letters. PREREQUISITE: Computer Basics or equivalent knowledge

Winning Job Applications/Online Job Applications – Learn what it takes to make sure that your job application gets noticed plus you’ll receive hands-on practice applying for jobs online.
